Homeschool STEM Courses FALL 2023!


Who:  Homeschool students!

What:  Three strands of science:  Magic & Science (ages 6-8), Green Energy (ages 9-12), Botany (ages 13-15)

When: Fridays, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM, Sep 22, 29, Oct 13, 20, 27,  Nov 3, 10, 17

Where: Talcott Mountain Science Center, 324 Montevideo Road, Avon Ct  06001

How: Students will attend Fridays for eight weeks.  New families will attend an orientation, Wed Sep 20, 4 PM - 5 PM that will include a campus tour.

Botany Ages 13-15

Signup for this course


This course will include a mixture of lessons, labs, and outdoor exploration. Students will learn about plant anatomy, evolution, pollination, classification, and adaptations. Every week they will add to their pressed plant collection, in which they will learn proper herbarium techniques to create long lasting museum quality specimens to take home. Book excerpts and a reading list will be provided for optional at-home enrichment.

Want to meet families and see the Center?  We will schedule an orientation evening for families Wed Sep 20. 

Each course
will have classroom / lab activities on-site weekly, and will also link to lesson / activity summaries on the web as links to outside references, resources and activities.

Tuition is $375 per student.  There is a $6.95 registration fee. 


Transportation
to and from Talcott is by car, it's a car drop-off line - so "stop, drop & go".  Same for pickups at 1:30.

"Bring a snack & lunch and dress for the weather."


Snack will be at 10:30

Lunch and recess
will be outdoors in good weather, from 12:10 to 12:40. 

Students work
with their instructor for a 2 hr morning and 1.5 hr afternoon session. 


COVID  Guidelines: 

Masks are currently optional on the TMSC campus.  TMSC follows the local health district guidelines. If they change before or during the classes, we will inform families and follow those.
